Registration opens for BWC safety congress and expo
Online registration is open for the annual Ohio Safety Congress and Expo hosted by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Division of Safety & Hygiene.
The Safety Congress set for March 20-22 at the International Exposition (IX) Center in Cleveland is one of the largest gatherings in the United States dedicated to safety. The year’s event, with an “extreme safety” theme, will feature Rusty Wallace, former NASCAR driver and ESPN racing analyst, as the keynote speaker.
“Safety is the most important aspect of preventing injuries on the job,” said Administrator/CEO Bill Mabe.“This congress and expo offer Ohio’s employers and employees opportunities to fine tune their safety program and network with their peers across the state. We encourage all of Ohio’s employers to attend this free event.”
New in the 2007 Congress is a day designed for the highest level of safety and health professionals. Nationally recognized experts in the safety and ergonomics fields will present in-depth sessions. Also, the March 21 sessions are specifically designed to meet the needs of self-insured employers.
The general sessions will also include appearances by Robyn Benincasa, a San Diego firefighter and multi-sport expedition racer, who will talk about building effective teams while “battling fires.” David Hart, a parachutist, motivational speaker and writer will discuss how to manage safety and react appropriately in dangerous situation. Edwin Foulke, assistant secretary of labor, has been invited to attend to give an Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) update.
More than 5,000 Ohio employers and employees are expected to attend and participate in one of the more than 150 hours of educational sessions. The classes are designed to provide attendees with flexible, yet customized, industry-focused approach to learning.
Continuing education units, certification maintenance points and credits for BWC’s Premium Discount Program Plus will be available for most sessions. More than 225 vendors offering a variety of services and products will participate in the expo marketplace. This is Ohio’s largest gathering of leading safety and health companies.
